FAQ

What is the best fence material for a backyard?

The best fence material for a backyard depends on your priorities. Vinyl fencing is one of the most popular choices because it offers excellent privacy, requires very little maintenance, and won't rot or need painting. Cedar fencing provides a natural wood appearance that many homeowners prefer, while black chain link fencing is an affordable, durable option that preserves visibility. Ornamental steel fencing offers security and an upscale appearance without blocking views. Consider your budget, desired level of privacy, maintenance expectations, and neighborhood style before choosing the right fence material.

Which fence lasts the longest?

Vinyl fencing and ornamental steel fencing are among the longest-lasting fence materials available. High-quality vinyl fencing can last 30 years or more without rotting, warping, or insect damage. Ornamental steel fencing can also last for decades when properly coated and maintained. Chain link fencing offers an excellent lifespan with galvanized or vinyl-coated finishes, while cedar fencing typically lasts 15 to 30 years depending on climate, installation quality, and maintenance.

What is the lowest-maintenance fence?

Vinyl fencing is widely considered the lowest-maintenance fence material. It never needs staining, painting, or sealing and can usually be cleaned with soap and water. Ornamental steel and galvanized or vinyl-coated chain link fencing also require very little maintenance.

Is chain link fencing a good investment?

Yes. Chain link fencing is one of the most cost-effective fencing options available. It provides dependable security, clearly defines property boundaries, and requires minimal maintenance. Black vinyl-coated chain link fencing has become increasingly popular because it offers a cleaner, more attractive appearance while maintaining the affordability and durability of traditional galvanized chain link fencing.

Which fence adds the most home value?

Any fence you choose will add to the value of a home it will provide an enclosed space for homeowners with kids, pets, pools, etc. Vinyl and ornamental steel typically add the most value to a home. A quality privacy fence can improve curb appeal, increase backyard usability, and make a property more attractive to buyers with children or pets. Choosing a fence style that complements your home's architecture and neighborhood often provides the greatest return on investment.

What fence is best for dogs?

The best fence for dogs depends on your dog's size, breed, and behavior. Vinyl privacy fencing is an excellent option because it prevents dogs from seeing distractions outside the yard while providing complete containment. Chain link fencing is a durable and affordable choice for most dogs, especially larger breeds. Ornamental steel fencing works well for larger dogs but may not be suitable for small breeds that can fit through wider pickets.

What fence provides the most privacy?

Vinyl privacy fencing is one of the best choices for complete backyard privacy. Full privacy vinyl panels eliminate visibility through the fence. Chain link with slats is another option that offers privacy while keeping the cost down.

Which fence is best for windy areas?

Chain link fencing generally performs best in high-wind areas because its open design allows wind to pass through instead of creating pressure against the fence. Ornamental steel fencing also handles strong winds well. Solid privacy fences such as vinyl, cedar, and composite require proper post depth, spacing, and installation techniques to withstand heavy wind loads effectively.

What is the most affordable fence material?

Chain link fencing is typically the most affordable fencing material. It offers excellent durability, long service life, and low maintenance at a lower overall cost than most privacy fencing options. Galvanized chain link is usually the least expensive, while black vinyl-coated chain link provides a more attractive appearance for a slightly higher investment.

Which fence requires the least maintenance?

All of our fence materials require little to no maintenance. Granted anything outdoors is custom to weather conditions or objects unintentionally hitting into the fence (ex. Something carried from storm, rock from lawn mower, weed wiper, etc.) Any of these can cause cracks and/or nicks in the fence material from these outdoor weather conditions. If any of these occur the affected component can typically be replaced without replacing the entire fence. Regular inspections and prompt repairs can help keep your fence looking its best and performing as intended for years to come.

Can vinyl fencing crack in cold weather?

Modern, high-quality vinyl fencing is designed to withstand cold climates, including freezing temperatures common throughout the northern United States. While extremely severe impacts during very cold weather can damage any material, properly manufactured vinyl fencing remains flexible enough for normal conditions and performs well in regions with harsh winters.

Which fence is easiest to install yourself?

Many people run into the problem of not having the correct materials or fittings for building a fence, with our custom design kits offer an easy way to make sure you have all the correct materials and fittings you need to install your fence.

What fence works best for uneven ground?

Chain link fencing adapts exceptionally well to sloped and uneven terrain because the material can follow changes in grade without creating large gaps underneath. Ornamental steel fencing can also be installed using rackable panels designed for slopes. Vinyl privacy can usually slope to the grade of your yard, depending on the severity of the grade. Our material should be able to fit the need of your slope.
